Bio-Ethanol Project

Client Total Uk Ltd
Contractor ATC
Project BioEthanol Project
Location Lindsey Oil Refinery, Immingham
Value £300k +

The Bio-Ethanol Project consisted of a package of works which included: construction of pipe support foundations, alterations and additional steelwork to rail loading terminal, removal and replacement of steel deck plates to rail loading terminal, construction of a new pump bay – associated pipe supports and a steel pipe bridge and an extension to the existing sub-station with new transformer pen and associated duct routes.

Specific challenges included the limited access for the excavation and construction of the pipe supports within the refinery, being adjacent to live plant. Many supports needed to be hand dug and materials barrowed in and out. Strict permit conditions were necessary due to working in and around live equipment.

Careful programming of the activities was essential to make best use of manpower and materials. It was essential that Health and Safety standards were exemplary and that coordination between ATC Supervision and LOR Process Staff was extremely efficient to minimise disruption to refinery production and ensure the safe working conditions for all staff.

The project was finished on time and within budget.
